![]() ![]() Streets of Rage Classic is available to download for free right now on both the Android Play Store and iOS App Store. The target demographic for this release should be quite familiar with what the game has to offer, but for those of us who weren’t around while 2D brawlers were still fresh, Sega Forever released the following intro to its YouTube channel. Relentless, explosive, and addictive as hell – Streets of Rage is the grand-daddy of beat-‘em-ups! Arm yourself with knives, bottles, and drainpipes and battle through eight thug-infested urban environments to bring order to the city. X – welcome to one of the all-time SEGA greats. Three cops, a city on the edge, and a crime lord known only as Mr. New to the game is the ability to save progress, leaderboards for that added replayability, and haptic feedback for players opting to stick with touch controls. To that end, the game offers local WiFi co-op, and for those looking to go classic all the way, there is support for MFi and HID-compatible controllers. The game, like the 1991 original, offers three playable characters, and is most enjoyable when played with a friend. The newest addition to the Sega Forever collection is the iconic arcade brawler Streets of Rage – a game whose name alone gives this old gamer a healthy dose of nostalgia. Best of all, every release, while ad-supported, is free to play. ![]() This year’s launch of the Sega Forever series has seen one classic Sega title after another re-released on iOS and Android. After having seen Nintendo and Niantic do so well with Pokemon GO, Sega has been hard at work bringing its own classics to the mobile space.
